André the Giant has a Posse!
André 'The Giant' Roussimoff was a professional WWF wrestler, wrangling in the ring with the likes of King Kong Bundy, Hulk Hogan, and many more.
Undefeated from 1973 to 1986, André also pursued a successful acting career appearing in a series of TV dramas and his favourite role as 'Fezzik' in the 1987 film 'The Princess Bride'.
Street artist Shepard Fairey created the 'André the Giant has a Posse' sticker campaign back in 1989, extending his street art "experiment in phenomenology". He continued to develop the artwork resulting in his iconic 'OBEY GIANT' icon.
Over the years, the original concept has been copied and manipulated many times by other artists. Given the original design was a process of appropriation, it's intriguing and complementary the graphic work has been referenced so many times...
