Banksy street art in London - 08/02/2016

Street artist Banksy's artwork grabs global media attention as soon as it appears on our city streets, and wherever else... It attracts an interested passer-by, admiring street artists and photographers, and is often defaced by graffiti writers.

Public / Private Ownership

Banksy artworks on public property have been poorly protected by local councils, while artworks placed on private property have become commercial opportunities for the building owners, sometimes complicating 'development plans', more often attracting attention from 'trophy hunters and dealers' seeking to remove the artwork and sell it at auction.

Street art and graffiti is ephemeral, it would love to last forever, but that's impossible and part of its character, accepted by the artists themselves. It's a great shame street art is being lost to greedy developers and art dealers, then collected by 'street art zombie' trophy hunters. Street art is defined by the street...
